Women and Trees

I am interested in creating narratives and images that reflect my interest in poetry, myth, rituals, and a sense of the sacred, in order to forge a spiritual atmosphere for meditation. In this category of work, I mostly question the boundaries between human beings and nature, particularly the intertwining of trees and the female body. These pieces imagine the transcendent meeting of the two, exploring themes of in-betweenness, safety, and existence between the sky and earth. The branches and roots of the tree are real, but between the two, in the trunk, is where I am reminded of human beings. I envision the trunk of a tree like a womb, a sanctuary. Without the literal or symbolic trunk, the tree cannot sustain itself or others. The trunk itself is sacred, as are women.

In daily life, we have our ordinary routines. But there is always another mystical dimension beyond these experiences that speaks to who I am.
